City of Boise developing modern zoning code, "Creating a city for everyone"

The City of Boise is developing a modern zoning code with the goal of ensuring the future design of the city "protects the character we love" and creates more walkable, dynamic spaces for everyone.

According to the City of Boise's website, a modern code:

- will protect the character of the City's neighborhoods and create opportunities for small businesses, pathways and homes at Boise prices.

- encourages building homes along transportation corridors so Boiseans can choose how they move around the City whether by foot, bike, bus or car.

- makes more housing types possible so kids can return home to start their lives in the place they grew up, aging parents can downsize and stay close to friends and family and the workforce can find housing at Boise prices.

Planning and Development Services has submitted the zoning code amendment and a plan amendment to the Planning and Zoning Commission. The commission will hold public hearings on the final version of the code and new conversion map in late April and make a formal recommendation to the City Council for a final decision.

Planning and Zoning Commission hearing dates for this week are listed below:

  • Public Testimony on Tuesday, April 25 at 5-10 p.m.
  • Public testimony and Q&A on Wednesday, April 26 at 5-10 p.m.
  • Q&A, deliberations and recommendations on Thursday, April 27 at 5-10 p.m.
